TOEFL means Test of English as a Foreign Language. TOEFL is one of the most popular English language proficiency tests in the world. The TOEFL PBT (paper-based test) was the original TOEFL test.

What does the TOEFL iBT measure?
The TOEFL iBT measures (tests) academic English language proficiency on a scale from 0 to 120.
Specifically, TOEFL measures your ability to apply academic English across four skill sets: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. As you can see, TOEFL is really a Test of academic English as a foreign language. TOEFL also measures your ability to learn new topics, then answer questions about them.
